Habari marafiki (Hello friends),
Habari yako? (How are you?) Iwe asubuhi, mchana au usiku naomba unaendelea vizuri (Whether it is morning, afternoon or night, I pray you are doing well).
I have been using the DuoLingo app to learn Swahili and I have been practicing for the past 52 days, time is flying. I started using the app soon after learning about this amazing opportunity to go to Kenya with Operation Christmas Child. The Lord is daily answering my prayers to give me knowledge when I am learning this language. I am currently in Unit 6 of Section 2. I am learning words, phrases and grammar concepts for basic interactions. There are a total of 5 sections and my goal is to complete it by sometime in May so I can go through any refresher areas. One thing I have noticed is that with each Unit there is a prompt to see the terms that one will be presented with. I do not open that, I just dive right in and attempt to guess the correct answer. I am thrilled that I have achieved 500 lessons with 85% accuracy, learning 1237 words in total, practicing 2240 sentences and amongst the top 4% Swahili learning on DuoLingo. I strive to spend a minimum of 15 minutes daily in the app learning. I say this as confirmation of the Lord’s calling on my life of missions. I would not be able to accomplish language skills without His divine intervention in my life. I believe the Lord has given me the ability to learn languages quickly, which is needed on the mission field.
Please continue to Pray
For each child who receives an Operation Christmas Child shoebox gift to experience God’s love and open their heart to the Gospel.
That friends and family who hear the Good News at outreach events will find even greater joy by trusting Christ.
For communities to be transformed by the power of the Gospel.
For many boys and girls to also participate in The Greatest Journey follow-up discipleship program and become lifelong followers of Jesus Christ.
Travel Safety
Physically prepared and to learn the Swahili language (while not necessary I want to learn)
My eyes would be open to see His hands working amongst the Kenyans
As an update the Hillsborough county team collected over 23,800 shoeboxes. Many go all over the continent of Africa and make a difference in the life of a child, with many children going through the discipleship program where they have the opportunity to receive Christ into their hearts and learn how to evangelize within their countries to bring more to Christ.
Many have asked if they could contribute to my trip, the answer is yes. There are different ways you can give:
Zelle sends money electronically via my phone number 813-263-5326 or email occ.plantcity@gmail.com
Postal Mail - please send me a message and I will send you my mailing address.
More updates to come next month. Amani na baraka kwako na familia yako (Peace and blessings to you and your family).
Heri ya Krismasi na Mwaka Mpya (Merry Christmas and Happy New Year),
Barbra
